REPORT: Days 4 and 5 of THIMUN

So I’ve noticed that I have been getting a lot of hits from my links on the DoDDS website and on Digg.com. This is totally awesome! I hope I didn’t scare anyone by not posting yesterday, I have been outside the conference center without internet, but I still will not be able to post pictures until tomorrow, sorry!

Day 4

Day 4 at THIMUN for me was fairly eventful. The debating process began and I was able to speak up against an amendment adding an emargo. The amendment ending up failing which may have had to do with my point. I spoke about Libya’s former embargo during the 1980s and the US - Cuba embargo in modern day.

In the disarmament commission we spoke on the topics, guerilla warfare and child soldiers and addressed two resolutions in each topic. Unfortunately only one passed, but it was a great resolution submitted by Denmark.

I also spent a lot of today preparing for my resolution tomorrow, its nothing exciting to blog about, sorry, but its vital for preperation.

In the evening some delegates were fortunate enough to see the film Paradise Now, which is about suicide bombers in Israel. It was a great film and the students were able to speak to the production designer about the movie after it!

Day 5 - The best day yet

Day 5 at THIMUN was by far the best. Our resolution was brought up after lunch and was one of the longer ones, I was a bit worried about this.

After our resolution was read only a few questions were asked, which was great because it meant people didn’t question it.

I got up to speak in front of the sub-commission about the resolution and was asked three questions. I felt that I was very prepared for what they asked and that it was what they wanted to hear.

Our resolution passed with 105 votes against 4, it made debating “lame” but was the submitters dream come true. A start to a perfect day!

Later that evening I met a few new people at McDonalds and an admin in my commission. Pretty neat people one is British and the other Australian…which reminds me today is Australia day, HAPPY AUSTRALIAN DAY!

Later we went out into the zentrum of the city and shopped around. I was able to buy a cheap version of half-life, one of my favorite games…I also was able to go into the apple store and admire their awesome computers. I took pictures but they probably won’t be posted until tomorrow.

Libya is just tearing up this THIMUN with the majority of our resolutions passed. I come together with Phil again tomorrow in the Disarmament Commission talking about both topics and the passed resolutions of the sub-commission.

Sorry this is a rushed post, tomorrow I will have more time and give more detail. Thanks for all the hits and stay tuned for more to come!
