Day 6 at Creative Connections

Full of surprises, day 6 makes me want to go back to school less and less, despite the food.

So my mom and little sister Madi showed up today. It was cool to see them and show them how awesome Creative Connections is, I am loving it and so are a lot of other students, here’s what some are saying…

The portraiture class is for learning how to accurately draw faces. Without doing traditional blending. That means we use cross hatching, which means drawing parallel lines over each other in different directions in order to convey shadows. I’ve learned that the best way to start a drawing is to not draw your heaviest lines first, its going from lighter to darker, which is rather difficult. We’ve been drawing mostly faces for our study pieces, but we started out doing simple cross hatching, which is just looks like squares. We also did a lot of spheres and cone shapes so that we can focus on where the light hits an object.

We’ve been working on portraits of models, and every student has the chance to model. I actually find it a lot harder to draw off the picture, and I think its easy to draw actual models. I really just enjoy drawing in general.

Today we’re drawing our theme, the castle in different areas, making it look neat in our own ways. My scene has a lot of brown, green, tan, a lot of earth tone colors. I’ve learned a lot from looking at other people’s drawings and different designs and techniques and I’ve taken them and used them in my own work.

In strings class I learned a new way to fiddle. There’s a new way that you can hold your bow that makes playing a lot easier and a lot faster. We’ve played pieces all the way from Mozart to Bach to modern day composers. The most enjoyable part of class has been playing with people who are at the same level as me.

This week has been awesome, it’s been one of the best weeks of my life. I love my class, I’m in music composition, and I ‘m having a great time. Basically this week we wrote our own song, and now we’re entering it on the computer so we can have a score of it and we can play it whenever we want.

So I posted a lot of quotes from people I was able to talk to today and throughout the week. Today isn’t over so I’ll post about it tomorrow, long 1 hour bus ride ahead tomorrow [compared to some people's 4 hour plane ride]. But we have to go tape the live performance so I have to run!
