HOW TO: Fix broken car windows

I drive an old car, most people make fun of it, but I don’t care. I like it, and it gets me where I need to go.

Now, to top of my car’s level of beauty I have a busted window, which is great timing, since I am going to be selling it in the next few weeks.

Having experienced this dillema and needing a solution for the rain, which has been pounding Germany for the past few days, I thought I would give everyone a step by step process to fixing your broken car window.

STEP 1: Choose your color

You know what you have to do now, you must find some sort of plastic to cover that window, it is going to look bad and you might feel homeless, as I do, but you must find the color that suits your needs.

Since my car has a stylish brown tint, I went with a white plastic, going with a lighter color for this car looked better than a black trash bag. You will have to decide for yourself what looks good and what looks terrible (or just unbearable).

STEP 2: The taping process

To keep your car’s fashion I recommend a tapeless look, which can be a little tricky. Of course, I shouldn’t have to say it, but I will…”You have to use duct tape.”

To get that tapeless look, tape only on the inside of the car door frame, I recommends taping to bottom to the bottom window panel, and tucking the top through the top door jam so that you can take the window down if you would like.

STEP 3: The look vs. The Feel

The only way to feel ok about not having a car window is to just accept the fact that you don’t. If you tell lie to yourself about having a decent looking car window than you may could actually feel pretty decent about it. (probably not)

STEP 4: Test the durability

Once you feel like you’ve usedyour duct tape to keep you rolling up and down plastic window, test it out. I recommend starting with the simple pushing in with the hand.

After using your hand take the car for a spin around the block.

Well, there you have it, a step-by-step how-to on fixing a problem that most of us old car drivers face. Temporarily fixing a car window is a must for those who are afraid of the wind and rain, and it well done you can accomplish great things.

Haha, this is great. This is definitely MAKE worthy. =D

Thanks Paul. I’ll check out MAKE.

[...] As I have stated before, I drive an old car, and apparently my speedometer isn’t exactly the best, I know this is true about the gas gauge, but not the speedometer. I was going down hill apparently at 43 KPH in a 30 KPH zone, but my speedometer said 35, about 3 miles over the speed limit. Also, my tail light was out…don’t you usually get a warning for that.
