REVIEW: X-Men III

I have to admit, paying 7 euros to see a movie is something I have not been thrilled with, especially after The Da Vinci disappiontment. But seeing X-Men 3 before everyone in the states was easily worth the cost!

Warning: Some spoilers ahead!

Seeing X-Men III on a Wednesday night, last night, was amazing. The movie was quite an experience and I would say that it was the best of this trilogy.

Opening

The good part about seeing a movie in a German theatre on opening night was that there are no previews, I was greeted with the 20th Century Fox logo as soon as the curtain opened. It was great.

At the very beginning we see Xavier and Magneto, 20 years before the current situation, getting Jean Grey, or Phoenix, who the entire movie really surrounds.

The movie started off with a lot of action, and one of my favorite X-Men, Wolverine, beasting up this robot with Storm and the rest of the gang from Xaviers of academy. It was a great opening action scene and introduced what we should expect for the end of the movie.

Some new faces

We saw a lot of Angel in the previews, we see him flying from a building, and he is directly behind Wolverine in the poster for X3, but I was a little disappointed in his role in the movie.

Despite being young in the beginning of the movie, and trying to huge being a mutant from his father, we only see him in three other parts of the movie, and though they are pretty awesome, I would have liked to see more angel.

The Story…

Mutants vs. Humans? Sort of…

In X3 there is a “cure” developed by the humans to cure the mutant X gene allowing all mutants to lose their powers and become fully human. This has a mixed reaction from the mutant community and eventually becomes violent.

The “cure” is created by a special mutant whose DNA rids others of their powers when them come near him. They use his DNA to produce this shot or cure.

Magneto rallies his troops to find this kid and kill humans who support the  “cure” with the help of some new characters, and Mystique’s information.

I know I warned about spoilers, but I don’t want to give too much about the plot away, so I’ll stop there…

Characters

Juggernaut

Juggernaut was a fine addition to the X-Men movie and I would have to say that his battle with Wolverine (don’t want to give much away) was amazing. They were constantly going back and forth and it was awesome to see the end result, as well as Juggernaut look dumb at the end of the movie.

Beast

Beast was awesome to see, and knowing that he was played by Kelsie Grammer made the movie even better. He was a diplomat for the US Department of Mutant Affairs, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t bust some heads when it came down to it!

Angel

As I said up top, Angel’s role was limited, but he did save someone pretty special to him and came to the academy during their time of need. I hope that we see more of Angel in the X-Men’s “future”.

The “Last” Stand

This better not be the last X-Men movie, because the ending (both actually) completely left the movie open for more! The end, right before the credits, literally gave me chills when I watched it and then to see the special part at the end of the credits was just amazing.

I can’t wait to see what is next for these movies, I just hope all the actors stay on board and keep this set of movies alive for years to come!

Well thats all I have to give away about this awesome movie. You have to go see it, I can’t wait to see it again!

Xmen 3 was the best movie that i have seen in the last two years. I would highly recommend that you go see this movie as it brings the trilogy together and leaves you wanting more.

brings the trilogy together and leaves you wanting more.

Haha. I would say it does leave you wanting more, but it totally leaves so much open.

yep it was very good. not the best ive seen this year, or even the best xmen but it was awesome. i feel a little cheated though. the story was just too inconsistant. points that were focuses for the last 2 films seemed ignored. We all remember how Cerebro was the huge focus in the other films, yet in this movie some nobody mutant can just do cerebro’s job instantly. Rouge dissapointed. Angel was too brief. Beast wasnt developed that well, and Kit, well we got next to nothing on her. The movie was visually stunning and an action fest. battles were incredible. totally worth your money to see and even buy, just i dont feel it was developed as well as X2. oh well, it was still a great ride.

v for vendetta might have been the best I’ve seen this year, but I don’t know X-Men III is pretty close. As far as the inconsistency, the movies have been pretty inconsistent, but still provide good links with each other.

I think it was amazing, sorry you were disappointed, but I think it was definitly better than X-Men II.

oh i wasnt disapointed at all. totally good movie. just not as good as some make it out to be if you care more about plot than wicked awesome action
