World Cup in Deutschland

I’ll be the first to admit I do not know much about soccer, but for some reason watching the World Cup in Germany is an experience that I will miss in 8 days when I come back to the states.
Tonight I went downtown to watch Germany and Poland battle it out, what a game. It is weird that a game that was scoreless until the last 2 minutes was exciting…I never would have thought that it could have been, but believe me it was.
Germans go absolutely crazy for the World Cup. It is unlike anything you have ever seen, as far as sports go. I know in America we go crazy over a Championship, I remember when Baltimore won the Super Bowl and how crazy the city was, but Wiesbaden goes insane during and after every game.
As I am writing this I can still hear the car horns from Germans driving by celebrating their 1-0 victory which ended almost 3 hours ago!
When Germany scored the whole bar that I was at was screaming, bells were ringing and Germans were singing “We are the Champions” (which is always funny to hear). And the game did not even mean that much in the tournament.
I just wonder why the U.S. doesn’t really care about the World Cup, it is disappionting to think that when I come back this huge event will be virtually meaningless in my native land.
