Imagine if MySpace…

I saw an article the other day on del.icio.us about why MySpace should not be considered Web 2.0. Their reasoning was that the video section of MySpace only plays Windows Media 9+ files on Internet Explorer.
After learning a bit about technology I deleted my MySpace page, that was one of the reasons that I started zamwi, but then I ran back. I realized that MySpace is a decent tool to keep in touch with people. Some consider it to be Web 2.0, comparing it to Geocities, but I say no…
After two weeks back on MySpace, I decided that it is in need of a few adjustments for it to be on the cutting edge of the web.
I get so tired of seeing people post bulletins on MySpace saying “New Blog Post” or “Check out my pictures.” It happens several times a day. If MySpace would add RSS to profiles, blogs and pictures and added a little aggregator into your homepage I might enjoy logging in. The bulletin board is a great place to do polls, which should also be added without having to copy the entire bulletin, and announce things to all of your friends.

RSS is the key to Web 2.0, I thought it was crazy that my Flickr pictures had RSS, but then I realized that I need to be able to subscribe to everything on the net, everything that gets updated that is…
Besides RSS, I need a few less “Unexpected Errors” to fully enjoy MySpace. I log in expecting problems with MySpace, I know they are a huge website, but I am tired of having so many problems with doing something so simple.

Design is something that also drives me crazy, people think they have to add some crazy background, music, and terrible colors. It is tough to have a good looking MySpace profile, that is why I decided to keep mine the default white, with a little shout out to Dr. Tiki. As far as music goes, please leave it to the band’s pages to have music. The first thing I do when I get to a profile is pause the songs and videos. If you want to see the idle MySpace profile, leave it to Kristen from Wiphey.com, or Derek or 5thirtyone.com.
MySpace is a step up from Geocities for sure, but it needs some tweaking for me to consider it to be Web 2.0.
