eyeTV or iTV: Which one do I want?

I absolutely love my Macbook Pro and I have even decided to hold on to my Mac Mini, okay, I just love Macs. But I really want some sort of DVR or way to watch TV, save it, stream it or something.

I knew eventually Apple would get into this market and when I heard about iTV at the “Its Showtime” venue I really felt like this product was for me. It will allow me to stream my video collection (which includes all of my DVDs) to my television. Perfect, right?

I did a little more research and found out about eyeTV, which is a cable video capturing and editing tool used for Macs. This is great because I know how stable OS X is and know that it can handle it. For $149.95 I really can not beat it.

The thing I like about eyeTV is that it allows me to hold on to those shows that I know and love. For instance, I love The Office and Smallville, where just so happen to be on at the same time. I can pay 2 dollars for The Office on iTunes while watching Smallville, or I can watch The Office and never see Smallville. Either way it costs (money or frustration). This tool allows me to do what I want with out being a pirate.
When I say the benefits of eyeTV I continued to look at iTV, which looks good but requires I pay for television shows, why should I do that when I already pay for cable?

That is why I think eyeTV is the product that I am looking for as opposed to iTV.
