the rookie black friday experience

Last year I didn’t take the day after Thanksgiving seriously enough, I pulled into Circuit City around 8 A.M., not expecting much…but hoping something would be left. This year I thought I was smarter, getting into the parking lot of Best Buy at 4:30, a half hour before they open. I wasn’t there for a big screen T.V., just a couple gadgets and looking for the crazed experience that is Black Friday.
As I entered the pitch black parking lot of our local Best Buy I noticed a typical line that extended passed the door, but it curved all the way along the building.
If I had to estimate how many people were in line I would say at least 1000. So I hopped at the end.I stood in line for a half hour, I looked at all the trash that the caffeine-pumped-die-hards had thrown everywhere. We had a couple campers in tents and a big RV parked in the lot. The crowd was fun but 38 degrees was not.
The doors opened at 5 A.M. and in we went.I watched as people rushed through the doors, grabbing their maps and heading for their big screens. I was selfish. All I wanted was a Bluetooth Headset and the MX Revolution.
I quickly grabbed what I wanted and walked around Best Buy to see what else I still could’ve gotten if I had a couple G’s to let loose.
Even at 5:15 Best Buy still had a huge selected of their big screen TV’s, GPS’s, movies, digital picture frames, video games, and Bluetooth headsets. I was shocked that I could’ve waited until everyone was in the store and still could’ve gotten the deals I wanted and plenty more.
After I finished at Best Buy we hopped over to Sears and Circuit City where I saw the same sort of thing. I felt that everyone who camped out ended up wasting a lot of time.
I wrapped things up by 7:30, was home by 8 and caught another 3 hours of sleep. Overall not to shabby for Black Friday.
I walked away with an MX Revolution at 50% off, a $12.99 Bluetooth headset, and the skills to do Black Friday right in ‘08.
